How to reach Bhutan ?
By Air:
Air entry into Bhutan is by Drukair (Bhutan national Airline). It operates from Bangkok, Delhi, Calcutta, Katmandu, Dacca, Bagdogra and Gaya, Drukair flights arrive in Paro, Bhutan's only airport, located about an hours drive from Thimphu. Domestic airports are underway in Bumthang in central Bhutan, Yonphula in eastern Bhutan and Gelephu in southern Bhutan. Upon completion of these domestic airports, it will be very convenient for travelers to cover whole of Bhutan within short span of time by avoiding several days to monotonous drives thereby saving time and money.
By Land:
If you wish to enter or exit Bhutan by car this can be done through the border town of Phuntsholing. It is located on the Indian boarder 6 hours drive south of Thimphu. The nearest airport in India is Bagdogra, in the Indian state of West Bengal 175km from the border (about 4 hours drive).
You may also choose to enter and exit Bhutan through the Eastern district at Samdrup Jongkher, the border town with Indian state of Assam. This requires you to drive all the way from to Eastern Bhutan and exit into India or do in reverse order and exit from Paro airport.
