Money & Photography

Money
Bhutan unit of currency is Ngultrum (Nu.), which is at parity with Indian rupee. Tourists are advised to carry their money in the form of Travelers cheques and cash. Visa, American Express is accepted only in few shops only if you buy goods worth of US$ 100 minimum. We recommend our clients to carry some amount in cash for personal expenses, tips and incidental expenses. The extra money as precautionary measure is always welcome. We do not entertain Visa or any credit cards to make tour payment. If you are traveling alone or with a friend (we call FITs), the tour payment is accepted directly either in cash or TC, but for group of 3 people and above, you need to wire transfer the money well in advance to enable us to process your visa.

Photography
The photographic opportunities on all trips are immense. You will also wish to record the local people, their houses and shops etc. Always ask by gesture if it is ok to do so. Don’t take your destination as living museum. Also while visiting dzongs, monasteries, temples and other religious institutions; please follow your guide’s instruction carefully. For your information, the photo shops in Bhutan do not offer quality equipment or accessories. 35mm color print film is readily available but slide films are difficult to find. It is advisable to bring along enough lithium batteries if required.

I am now safely backed home but the memories of your beautiful country will live with me always. My stay in Bhutan was simply wonderful. The trek was little challenging for someone of my age but nevertheless the views were the most beautiful I have seen anywhere in the world and helped to melt the pain.
